I took out my bike today out for a long ride and it made me realize how unsafe it can be. As a rider, you have to rely so much on your side mirrors and at times you have to reinforce it by looking back (although if you have bigger side mirrors, this may be unnecessary). Also, going in between cars can be risky especially if you don’t know how to estimate. Clothing also became an issue whenever you feel warm or cold.
The experience I had today made me remember why Dumaguete City is a good haven for motorist. The streets there are more “biker friendly” than Cebu streets. You don’t have to worry so much about cars in Dumaguete but you do have to watch out for the pedicabs (tricycles) and unskilled riders.
Too bad I can’t ride as always as I used to because of safety. How I wish Cebu riding environment got infected with Dumaguete’s “ecosystem” (minus the reckless drivers).
